NOTES |
John was born in Maryland, and both parents, in England. In 1910 he was living with his mother, Eliza, and brother, Thomas, in Mahanoy (Ward 5), Schuylkill Co., PA, working as a laborer in a coal mine. In 1920 John and his mother were living with his sister and family (Mary and Frank Messerschmidt) in Philadelphia (Ward 40), where he was a bolter in a shipyard. By 1930 John and Mildred were married and living with her parents and their children in Edgewood, PA, where he worked as a machinist in a signal plant. In 1940, they were still living with Susanna in Edgewood where he worked as a machinist in a steel mill. Marilyn is the author of Hamlet to Highways: A History of Monroeville, Pennsylvania, with illustrations and photographs by her husband, Clair (self-published, 1988). |
