NOTES
David’s parents were born in Ireland. His mother’s name was Ellen, and she was born around 1786. Margaret was born on the voyage from Ireland to America. (The 1850 Census has her listed as born “On Sea,” which corresponds to family accounts. The 1870 Census has her listed as born in Maryland, which may not be as contradictory as it may seem, as Baltimore was a very common port of entry for Irish immigrants.)
