John Trimble wrote a one-page family history dated 8 January, 1888, furnishing the dates of Gibsons birth, marriage to Elizabeth Hays, and information regarding their five children. (See below.) It is believed that Gibson was a riverboat captain, that William drowned while on his fathers boat as a young child, and that Elizabeth died shorthly thereafter. A Memoriam to James published by the Masons in 1916 states that he was left an orphan at the age of 8 years and was brought up by his maternal grandfather [Hays]. This would date Gibsons death around 1843. |
